In an exclusive glimpse, we bring you the first-ever sighting of the forthcoming Volkswagen Golf in its GTI variant. Although this isn’t our inaugural encounter with the overhauled hatchback, our seasoned eyes are well-equipped to uncover concealed intricacies. Our exploration commences with a scrutiny of the front fascia, where the GTI’s contemporary aesthetics are on display.
The prevailing GTI model boasts artful, square proportions that adorn the lower fascia with its signature vents and grille. Notably, the application of black tape at the peripheries may deceive observers into believing that this iteration adheres to the same design language. In reality, the corner vents exhibit a subtle departure, dipping slightly lower before ascending at a discernible angle, reminiscent of the existing Golf R. This constitutes a more assertive design direction for the GTI, fostering speculation that the characteristic X-shaped LED lighting fixtures in the corners will endure, notwithstanding the unitary appearance presented here.
Bathed in an abundance of luminance, the frontal aspect of this immaculate white hatchback offers little indication of concealed elements residing between the grille and the novel headlamp assembly. Intriguingly, Volkswagen has refrained from obscuring the revised modifications to the GTI’s "eyes," which are slated to undergo modest resizing in the new iteration. Relative to the revamped fascia, the alterations to the lighting components remain remarkably understated.
Turning our attention to the rear, we encounter a noteworthy transformation in the form of the taillights. A discerning observer will discern what appears to be undulations within the crimson lenses. This visual effect is, in fact, a byproduct of an affixed decal mimicking a taillight. Remarkably, this decal does not obscure any structural changes in shape but rather conceals a fresh internal LED lighting arrangement within the pre-existing lens.
While we are yet to gain a comprehensive insight into the revamped Golf’s interior, it is indisputable that noteworthy changes are imminent. Among the anticipated alterations is the integration of a marginally larger central touchscreen. It is noteworthy that Volkswagen has acknowledged the relative shortcomings of the touch-sensitive controls initially introduced with the Golf 8, characterizing them as largely ineffectual. As such, we anticipate the phasing out of these controls in favor of a more conventional, analog interface when the forthcoming model eventually makes its debut.
