Latest Update: 2024 Chevy Corvette Z06s arrived in June 2023, with a price starting from $106,000.
Japan is about to witness a groundbreaking moment as Chevrolet prepares to deliver the first-ever factory-made right-hand-drive Corvette Z06s to the country. As part of Chevy’s commitment to making the latest Corvette C8 available globally, they have ensured that countries requiring right-hand-drive vehicles will have access to them. However, it seems that Japan might not be receiving the full extent of what the Z06s has to offer.
During an interview with GM Japan executives Yoshiaki Uehara and Satoshi Nakano, it was disclosed that all the C8 Corvette Z06s units destined for the Land of the Rising Sun will share the same specifications. They will be adorned in a sleek black exterior with vibrant red interiors, boasting the top-of-the-line 3LZ trim level, including all the desirable features.
While the combination of a black sports car with red seats may be considered tasteful for the Corvette Z06s, Japanese enthusiasts might yearn for more options. Nevertheless, there is a reasonable explanation for this decision.
Uehara explained that they opted for a single specification across all units in order to minimize waiting times. Furthermore, black happens to be the most popular paint color for the Corvette Z06s in the United States, which facilitates the importation process for the right-hand-drive versions.
Uehara remarked, "There are numerous options available. If we were to refer to an American website, we would be spoilt for choice and could spend an entire week exploring the possibilities. Naturally, we want to offer our customers that kind of enjoyment. However, if we were to do so, no matter how long we wait, the cars would never arrive."
Another aspect that warrants discussion is performance. As previously reported, the Corvette Z06s destined for overseas markets will undergo some adjustments to comply with stricter regulations.
Specifically, the Z06s’s mighty 5.5-liter flat-plane V8 engine, which stands as the most potent naturally aspirated V8 in any production vehicle, will witness a reduction in power output. While the US version boasts an impressive 670 horsepower, the Z06s arriving in Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and Japan will deliver a slightly lower 636 horsepower.
In addition, the distinct quad-exhaust setup found in the American Z06s will be substituted with a standard twin-exhaust configuration placed at opposite ends of the Japanese Z06s’s rear bumper. This alteration is necessitated by the stringent emission and noise regulations in these particular markets, which prohibit the employment of the straight pipes featured in the US-spec Z06s.
Despite these minor differences, the arrival of the right-hand-drive Corvette Z06s in Japan marks an exciting chapter for automotive enthusiasts in the country. While they may not have the flexibility of choosing various specifications or the exact performance figures, the sheer thrill and allure of experiencing the legendary Corvette Z06s on Japanese roads will undoubtedly compensate for any perceived shortcomings.
