The roofline and design of the X4 will be carried over to the iX2. It is a significant departure from the current model, which has a boxy shape that is more conventional but stylized. The crossover may also expand in size, as rumors of the X4’s demise suggest that the next-generation iX2 will take its place. The more intricate details of the crossover’s design are kept under wraps, but the doors’ "Electrified Vehicle" sticker and closed-off grille lead us to believe this is the all-electric iX2 model.

The new iX2 will be built on the company’s FAAR platform, which enables the vehicle to accommodate a variety of powertrains. The iX1’s dual-motor configuration produces 313 horsepower (230 kilowatts) and 364 pound-feet (494 Newton-meters) of torque, so it is likely that the iX2 will use the same setup. The automaker is also expected to offer iX2 and iX1 models with a single motor and front-wheel drive.

We anticipate that BMW will offer the same engine lineup as the new X1, even though the non-electric iX2 has not been identified. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 241 horsepower (177 kW) and 295 lb-ft of torque (400 Nm) should serve as the base engine. The more powerful iX2 M35i, likely producing more than 300 horsepower (223 kW), should be included in the next-generation model. We do not anticipate BMW producing a fully loaded iX2 M variant.
