Latest Update: 2023 CHevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison is ready to launch in the coming months.
In July of last year, Chevrolet introduced the all-new 2023 Colorado pickup truck. The lineup featured the rugged ZR2, but recent spy photos indicate that an even more aggressive truck is on the way - the Colorado ZR2 Bison. Our talented photographers caught the new Bison being tested on the streets of Metro Detroit.
Although the new truck appears similar to the 2023 ZR2, upon closer inspection, there are a few noticeable differences. The Bison seems to sit higher, with unique 12-spoke wheels that have a black finish and are wrapped in Goodyear Wrangler Territories tires. The tires are larger than the previous model’s 31-inch ones, potentially measuring up to 35 inches on this new truck. The exposed Flowtie emblem on the front of the vehicle also features a red accent on the inner lip, which is one of the few hints of its special status.
The new Bison seems to follow the formula established by its predecessor, which was first launched in 2019. That beefier truck featured steel bumpers, steel skid plates, and an assortment of off-road equipment that was added to an already capable pickup. For the new model, Chevrolet collaborated with American Expedition Vehicles and used OEM and AEV aftermarket parts to build the Bison. The new version should come equipped with the same level of gear, including beadlock tires.
Chevrolet only offers one engine option for the third-generation Colorado, which is a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder. However, the automaker offers this engine in three different tunes, with the weakest option generating 237 horsepower and 259 pound-feet of torque. That isn’t the engine that Chevy uses in the ZR2, though. The ZR2 features an engine that produces 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque, which is likely the same setup that will power the new ZR2 Bison. The only available gearbox for the Colorado is an eight-speed automatic.
