The new Sorento crossover will be revealed by Kia later this year. The redesigned model was spotted by our spies a few months ago, and the most recent images reveal that little has changed since. The photos not only provide the first uninformative look at the cabin, but they also show the crossover still sporting thick cladding and camouflage across the fascias.
Mid-cycle refreshes frequently only update the vehicle’s exterior. The Sorento, on the other hand, does not appear to be going that route. The only image of the interior shows Kia covering the cabin in cloth and concealing the center console and dashboard.
The interior of the new Sorento should be completely redesigned when it arrives. The wraparound dual-display setup seen poking through the cloth in the 2022 Sportage and 2023 Telluride should be included in the crossover. The new layout ought to be paired with an updated instrument panel and center console that reduce the amount of physical switchgear for capacitive buttons.
We anticipate that Kia will update the grille, install new vertical-oriented taillights similar to those on the Telluride, and redesign the bumpers on the exterior. The taillights are the same, but the manufacturer will probably change the internal graphics and connect them to a light bar, as other brands have done.
One of the few parts of the Sorento lineup that hasn’t changed for the new model is the powertrain lineup. The crossover is available in the United States with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 191 horsepower (142 kilowatts) and 182 pound-feet of torque (246 Newton-meters). A turbocharged 2.5-liter engine with 281 horsepower (210 kW) and 311 lb-ft (421 Nm) of torque is also offered by the manufacturer.
The Sorento is also available with two hybrid powertrains from Kia. A 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder produces 227 horsepower (169 kW) and 258 lb-ft of torque (350 Nm) in the standard model. The plug-in hybrid also has a 1.6-liter engine, but it has the same 258 lb-ft of torque and 261 horsepower (195 kW). The redesigned model ought to have access to these powertrains. They might be tweaked by Kia to make them work better, but we don’t expect any big changes.
The redesigned Sorento isn’t expected to debut until the second half of 2023, but Kia hasn’t said when. If that is the case, it might go on sale in about a year for the model year 2024.
