The Song Plus EV Champion Edition comes in four versions, and it starts at RMB 169,800 (€22,100). That’s a reduction of RMB 10,000 (€1,300) compared to the price offered during the pre-sale campaign. All three versions of the Song Plus share the same battery with a 520 km CLTC rating, but the top-of-the-line model goes even further with a 605 km rating, available for RMB 209,800 (€27,300).

Not only has the new Song Plus EV gotten a bit longer and taller than its predecessor, but its driving range has also seen a slight improvement. This electric wonder belongs to BYD’s Ocean series of vehicles, alongside the Song Pro and Song Max. Just last month, a whopping 102,572 vehicles were sold from the Ocean family, and within that impressive number, 24,329 units of the Song Plus were included.

Now, what does all this mean for those customers who already paid a higher price last week? Well, BYD wouldn’t be so callous as to ignore them. Most of those pre-orders were secured with only a small deposit, which means these customers are actually in for a pleasant surprise. They’re getting an even better deal than they bargained for. As for those who paid in full, they’ll either receive a refund or some extra equipment free of charge. Not too shabby, right?

BYD’s decision to lower the price of a brand-new electric vehicle within just 10 days of its launch speaks volumes about what’s happening in the Chinese EV market. Despite steady sales growth each month, it’s not quite reaching the heights that manufacturers had anticipated. The market is slowly becoming saturated with electric cars, and with Tesla igniting a price war earlier this year, every EV manufacturer is starting to feel the heat.
