2024 Blazer EV is the complete package with style, performance, and technology. Available in multiple trims, colors, and battery ranges, this daring new all-electric mid-size SUV is built from the ground up around the game-changing Ultium battery platform. Ultrium offers flexibility in charging speeds, vehicle range, and performance – giving the sporty Blazer EV the sheer power and confidence needed to go the distance. Designed from the ground up to power most of our all-electric lineup, the Ultrium Platform† allows Blazer EV to offer a range of performance and driving characteristics. The all-new body architecture supports multiple range options along with three available drive systems: front-wheel drive, all-wheel drive, and rear-wheel drive. Chevrolet today revealed the all-electric 2024 Blazer EV, expanding the brand’s growing EV portfolio, making EV ownership more accessible, and driving Chevy into the heart of the growing midsize electric crossover segment. Multiple distinct trims, multiple range1 options — Including an available GM-estimated range of up to 320 miles on a full charge1 — and available front-, rear- and all-wheel-drive configurations offer customers more choices, and a seamless EV experience designed to complement virtually every lifestyle. Those choices include available 1LT, 2LT, RS, and Chevy’s first-ever electric SS performance model, along with a pursuit-rated Police Pursuit Vehicle (PPV) model for police fleet applications. The Blazer EV will be an all-new model within the Blazer family, with its own distinct body and interior—it’s not a gas Blazer fitted with an EV propulsion system. It will be offered in four trims, with the mid-range 2LT and RS models hitting the market first in the summer, of 2023. The top-spec SS trim will follow shortly thereafter, going on sale before the end of 2023. The lowest-priced 1LT trim will join the lineup in early 2024. We’d go with the RS to unlock the Blazer’s maximum driving range. This sporty-looking model comes standard with cool 21-inch wheels, a power-operated hands-free rear liftgate, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated flat-bottomed steering wheel, and an illuminated Chevrolet bowtie logo. Chevrolet hasn’t released horsepower figures for the 1LT, 2LT, or RS models yet, but the range-topping SS model will come exclusively with a 557-hp electric powertrain with standard all-wheel drive. That model, according to Chevy, will hit 60 mph in under 4.0 seconds. The 1LT is available only in a front-wheel drive arrangement while 2LT models can be had with either front- or all-wheel drive. Curiously, the RS model comes standard with either front- or rear-wheel drive—your choice—with all-wheel drive optional. When more information is released on the Blazer EV’s available powertrains, we’ll update this story with details. Although Chevy hasn’t released much info on the size of the battery packs that will be available on the Blazer EV, we know that the RS model will boast the highest EPA estimated driving range of the lineup at 320 miles. The entry-level 1LT model is said to deliver around 247 miles per charge while the 2LT and SS trims offer a claimed range of 293 and 290 miles, respectively. The Blazer EV will be capable of charging on a DC fast charger and Chevrolet says it can charge at up to 190 kW and add about 78 miles of range in just 10 minutes. Fuel economy ratings for the Blazer EV haven’t been released and likely won’t be until closer to the SUV’s on-sale date in the summer of 2023. When we get a chance to test the Blazer EV for ourselves, we’ll take it on our 75-mph highway fuel economy route and update this story with test results and observed driving range.
The Blazer EV is strictly a two-row affair, and from photos, we can see a sporty interior-design motif that nicely matches the SUV’s aggressive exterior styling. Round air vents flank the dashboard, and in RS and SS trims Chevrolet has adopted a two-tone black-and-red color scheme—but we expect a more monotone look to be available too for those who don’t appreciate the flash. While there is adequate leg room in both rows, we found headroom lacking when we had a chance to sit inside a pre-production SS model. When we get a chance, we’ll test the Blazer EV’s cargo capacity with our carry-on suitcase test and update this story with the results. General Motors is determined to be one of the trailblazers when it comes to battery-powered vehicles, with more than 30 new EVs coming to market by mid-decade. And that makes it all the more appropriate that the next all-electric offering it’s set to roll out will wear the same label as the popular gas-powered Chevrolet Blazer SUV.Set to start arriving in U.S. showrooms a year from now, the 2024 Chevy Blazer EV will be the first mainstream model from GM to use its next-generation Ultium batteries and chassis, as well as the Ultifi electrical system. (Chevy’s Bolt EV and EUV use a different battery system that precedes Ultium.) The payoff, according to the automaker, will come in the form of a longer range, shorter charging times, improved handling, and lots of new features, including the hands-free Super Cruise driving system. We’re making it easy to go EV," Steve Majoros, Chevy’s marketing chief, said during a briefing ahead of Monday’s debut of the new Blazer EV. All models come with a large 17.7-inch infotainment display that’s canted slightly toward the driver and framed on the left and the bottom by physical controls for the climate control system and a volume knob. A secondary 11.0-inch display presents the driver with gauges and other driving info. Chevrolet hasn’t said anything about the Blazer EV’s infotainment system, but we’re guessing that it’s GM’s latest, which is Android Auto-based. We expect to see plenty of standard connectivity features such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot. Chevrolet is bundling a host of driver assistance features together as standard, including automated emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and a parking assist feature. GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving system is also available.
Key safety features include: "The 2024 Blazer EV sets a new tone for electric SUVs, with options and intuitive technologies that help position Chevy for leadership in one of the fastest-growing EV segments," said Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet. "Along with the all-new Silverado EV and Equinox EV coming next year, we are making great strides in offering more choices for zero tailpipe-emissions vehicles — choices that make switching to an EV easier than ever. The Blazer EV SS has the soul of a true sports car," said Bell. "And while it represents the pinnacle of performance for Chevy’s EV lineup, all models offer stirring capabilities that will surprise and delight true performance devotees."Blazer EV is the complete package with style, performance, and technology. Available in multiple trims, colors, and battery ranges, this daring new all-electric midsize SUV is built from the ground up around the game-changing Ultium battery platform. Ultrium offers flexibility in charging speeds, range, and performance — giving the sporty Blazer EV the sheer power and confidence needed to go the distance. At first glance, you might confuse the new battery model with the familiar, gas-powered Blazer. But fundamentally, they are different: the original Blazer is based on GM’s C1XX vehicle architecture shared with the Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia, and Cadillac XT6, while the EV is on the automaker’s new battery platform, Ultium.
